A Long Night

Last night was a very long night. One of my dogs has an infection in her paw and we ended up taking her to the 24 hour vet clinic to get it looked at. It looks like she will be ok, we have drugs and ointments to give her, but we are keeping an eye on her.
It was really sad at the 24 hour vet. At 10pm there is not a lot of happiness to be had there. While we were waiting for the doctor to get us our antibiotics for our puppy another couple came in with a dog who must have been quite ill. We could hear that the woman was sobbing and the vet tech later told us it was a Code 4. We have no idea what that is, but it sounds really bad. My heart was breaking for that couple. I hope that everything works out for them.
On a lighter note … or not depending on how you look at it …
We went to dinner at a national seafood chain restaurant last night (prior to the 24 hour vet excursion). This place is known for its All-You-Can-Stuff-In-Your-Face seafood bonanzas. I ordered a seafood platter that featured fried fish fillets, shrimp, crab cakes, and clams. It was really not great, and the more I considered it the more angry I became.
Most of the seafood is frozen, ready-to-cook. All they have to do is fry it and 'bam!', it's dinner! Well, someone forgot to turn the oil up, or they were frying a ton of frozen items, because the seafood was SOAKED in grease. Not just a dipple of oil here and there. Soaking to the point where the breading was falling off. Getting an oil temp right is not hard. Really, I know.
So, needless to say, the seafood lover in me was not pleased. Tonight I am going to make the dinner I had planned for yesterday, Nigella Lawson's Mustard Pork Chops, and I know it will be better than anything I could have had at the anonymous seafood chain.
